Millennials are no exception. They have moved to the right.
Fifteen years ago, a new generation of young voters propelled Barack Obama to a decisive victory that heralded a new era of Democratic dominance. Fifteen years later, those who were once young voters are not so young, and not so democratic. In the 2020 presidential election, voters who were 18 to 29 years old in 2008 supported Joe Biden by 55 percent to 43 percent, according to our estimates, a margin about half of what Mr. Obama was 12 before that. Exit polls show it even closer, with Biden winning by only 51-45 among voters who were 18-27 in 2008…

What DeSantis and Trump T-shirts say about the 2024 primaries
You can see the slogans all over Florida. On T-shirts, flags, hats. At the grocery store, on car bumper stickers. “From Santisland. Land of freedom”. “DeSantis Airlines: We bring you the border!” These sleek designs and their pithy slogans echo some of the most seismic news events of Gov. Ron DeSantis’ tenure as Florida’s top elected official: his ongoing dispute with The Walt Disney Co.; his administration’s decision to move dozens of migrants from the US-Mexico border to Massachusetts. But much of the swag seen in public is not being sold by DeSantis or those in his political orbit. Rather,…

Opinion | Political correctness used to be fun. Now it’s no joke.
In the early 90s it would have been hard to imagine that there would come a time when people longed for the double denim, grunge gloom and unkempt facial hair of Ethan Hawke’s “Reality Bites.” Even more unfathomable: that there would be any affection for anything about the nascent political correctness of that era with its penchant for words like “womyn” and other idealistic but often ill-conceived efforts to reimagine the dictionary. And yet! In the wake of my 30th college reunion last month at Brown University, a notorious site for politically correct thinking in its day, these emergent PC…

See who voted against the House bill to raise the debt ceiling
WASHINGTON – The debt ceiling deal passed the House with overwhelming bipartisan support Wednesday night, but it also had strong bipartisan opposition with 117 members voting against it. About 71 Republicans and 46 Democrats voted against the debt limit bill. Four lawmakers did not vote, including Rep. Lauren Boebert, R-Colo. Several far-right conservatives, including members of the Freedom Caucus, opposed the legislation and criticized House Speaker Kevin McCarthy for accepting a deal they say does not go far enough to cut spending. House progressives also voted against the bill, but for different reasons: They criticized the legislation for expanding work…
