The Portuguese head of state assures that there is sufficient preparation in all entities to solve what “may await us in the coming weeks”, in terms of forest fires. Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa also points out that there is knowledge of the challenge facing the country.
According to the President of the Republic, “there is a unit of political power” that involves the political actors present in the Government and Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa himself, however, during the operational information session at the National Emergency and Civil Protection Authority (ANEPC), in Lisbon, adds that it includes the mayors of municipalities and parishes, which Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa describes as “unsurpassed on the ground in this period”.
Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa also left some words of support and thanks to the operators working in the field and paid tribute to Deputy Chief Carlos Antunes, who died fighting a fire in Caldas da Rainha.
For the Head of State, “the operations have been extraordinary”.
In the analysis of Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, “in these fires there are new realities”, both in Portugal and in other countries.
