Michael Luttig testified on June 16 as the House committee investigating the Jan. 6 attack presented its findings to the public.<br \/>\nLuttig said despite claims from President Donald Trump and John Eastman, his campaign lawyer, former Vice President Mike Pence had no authority to alter the counting of the electoral votes.<br \/>\n\u201cThere was no basis in the constitution or laws of the United States \u2013 at all \u2013 for the theory espoused by Mr. Eastman. At all, none,\u201d Luttig told the Jan. 6 committee. He added that Pence \u201chad little substantive constitutional authority, if any at all,\u201d to reject Congress&#8217; official count of Electoral College votes on the day of the Jan. 6 attack.<br \/>\nIn the year since its creation, the committee has conducted more than 1,000 interviews, seeking critical information and documents from people witness to, or involved in, the violence that day.
