“Leave It to Beaver” star Tony Dow is close to death, his wife, Lauren Dow, has confirmed. CBS News<\/a> Tuesday late afternoon.<\/p>\n >> Read more trending news <\/p>\n Earlier Tuesday, Dow’s management team of Frank Bilotta and Renee James unceremoniously announced his death in a Facebook post.<\/p>\n The post has since been removed, and Lauren Dow confirmed to CBS<\/a> that her husband, who is fighting a recurrence of cancer, is still breathing, but in the hospital.<\/p>\n Seconds TMZ<\/a>who spoke with Dow’s manager, Lauren Dow, believed her husband was dead and told her management team, prompting the erroneous Facebook post.<\/p>\n Original report: In May, Dow and his wife, Lauren Shulkind, announced that the actor had “once again been diagnosed with cancer.” They did not specify the type of cancer.<\/p>\n Dow is best known for his portrayal of Wally Cleaver, the older brother of Theodore “Beaver” Cleaver, in the sitcom Leave It to Beaver, which ran from 1957 to 1963.<\/p>\n In addition to acting, Dow was also a television producer and directed episodes of “Babylon 5,” “The New Leave It to Beaver” and “Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.”<\/p>\n In the early 2000s, Dow turned to sculpting full-time, according to officials at Bilotta Gallery, a Florida art gallery that featured Dow’s work.
