BRATTLEBORO, Vt. – The ex-boyfriend of a Harvard woman found dead in Vermont was shot and killed by police in Vermont Tuesday night, authorities said.<\/p>\n
Massachusetts State Police said Fitchburg native Matthew Davis, a person of interest in the death of 23-year-old Mary Anderson, was shot during a standoff with police.<\/p>\n
Vermont State Police said the confrontation occurred when police tried to question Davis in West Brattleboro in a wooded area between Bonnyvale Road and South Street around 7:45 p.m.<\/p>\n
In a statement, Vermont State Police said: “Two troopers and a Brattleboro police officer fired their weapons during the encounter with Davis, who was armed with a knife.”<\/p>\n

The vehicle had been searched for his disappearance.<\/p>\n Police had been looking for Davis for questioning in connection with the death investigation.<\/p>\n Photo courtesy: Matthew Davis and Mary Anderson <\/span><\/p>\n Davis also had connections to the Pittsfield area. He was described as 5 feet 6 inches tall, with brown hair and blue eyes.<\/p>\n Anderson’s family told Boston 25 News that he had been spending time with friends in Hudson, NH. She was last seen Saturday night around 10:30 p.m. His family added that they suspected foul play in his disappearance.<\/p>\n “She’s never been. This is so unlike her,” Mary’s mother, Sheila Anderson, said Monday.<\/p>\n State troopers involved in the Davis shooting will be placed on paid administrative leave for a minimum of five days, Vermont State Police said.<\/p>\n Massachusetts State Police detectives assigned to the Worcester District Attorney’s Office are assisting Vermont State Police with the investigation.<\/p>\n Vermont State Police have preliminarily identified the body found inside a truck in Brattleboro, VT, as Mary Anderson, 23, of Harvard.
