Become a school crossing guard, says the Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office.<\/p>\n
Livingston Parish Sheriff Jason Ard said his office is looking to fill several crossing guard positions after signing a cooperative agreement with the school system.<\/p>\n
The position will pay $650 per month and is open to anyone in or out of the school system.<\/p>\n
In a letter to the Livingston Parish School Board, Ard said he hopes to find more crossing guards so his deputies can “serve the citizens of Livingston in the capacity. [they] they are capable of doing the best.”<\/p>\n
He echoed that sentiment during a phone interview with The News, saying more crossing guards will free up their deputies to do other job duties.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have growing pains every day and we are a forever growing parish,\u201d Ard said. “So many of my deputies spend a lot of time directing traffic and not watching traffic.”<\/p>\n
School crossing guards help out in a number of ways during the morning and afternoon carpool times, most notably helping direct traffic and guiding children as they cross the street.<\/p>\n
Ard said those who apply and qualify will receive the necessary training and equipment, both provided by the Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office. Work hours will vary, but Ard said the position requires about four hours of work per day.<\/p>\n
“It’s less than two hours in the morning and less than two hours in the afternoon, so that’s really good money for a little bit of work,” Ard said.<\/p>\n
