Downey, California – An off-duty officer with the Monterey Park Police Department was shot and killed in a parking lot on Monday, August 8, 2022.<\/p>\n
The shooting happened around 3:25 pm PT in a parking lot in front of a gym at the shopping center located at 12070 Lakewood Boulevard.<\/p>\n
The police officer found a man with gunshot wounds at the scene and it appeared the man may have been shot in or near a black Dodge Charger.<\/p>\n
Paramedics responded and later pronounced him dead at the scene.<\/p>\n
Investigators discovered the victim was an off-duty officer with the Monterey Park Police Department, but the police officer’s name has not yet been released.<\/p>\n
A possible motive and circumstances surrounding the shooting are under investigation.<\/p>\n

Moments ago tonight, a posse of police vehicles followed the body of the fallen police officer to the corner office near downtown Los Angeles, California; he passed under a large American flag that was draped from 2 Los Angeles City Fire Department ladder fire trucks as firefighters waved as the van passed the corners.<\/p>\n
The investigation is ongoing and anyone with additional information is encouraged to call Detective Ron Gee at (562) 904-2331 or Lt. Dwayne Cooper at (562) 904-2370.<\/p>\n
