According to a Reuters report, this week’s celebrations to mark Ukraine’s independence from Sovient have been halted after a US official warned them of Russian attacks in the following days. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had also warned citizens that “something particularly ugly” could take place on the 31st anniversary of Independence Day. Earlier in the week, fresh explosions rocked the Crimean peninsula as 12 civilians were injured after a Russian missile hit a residential area in a southern Ukrainian city near a nuclear power plant.
