BRUNSWICK, Ga.<\/strong> – A mother of a teenager accused a homeless man of breaking into her apartment and sexually assaulting her daughter, Glynn County District Attorney Keith Higgins revealed in a related press conference with another crime.<\/p>\nTroy Rogers III, 53, is accused of breaking into an apartment on Albany Street in Brunswick and raping the 14-year-old.<\/p>\n
The mother said she was at work when it happened. She also said Rogers was a complete stranger and she believes she knew her daughter was home alone at the time.<\/p>\n
“My daughter gave very complete descriptions of him, from his height to the look of his eyes to the way he walked. They immediately knew who he was when she described him,” said the mother .<\/p>\n
According to the mother, Rogers sexually abused the teenager for five hours before leaving.<\/p>\n
“As soon as she opened the door, he pushed her in. As soon as he walked in, he punched her in the mouth, hit her on the bed and grabbed a baseball bat,” the mother said.<\/p>\n
Rogers was arrested and charged with two counts of child abuse, one count of rape and one count of home invasion.<\/p>\n
“I was really in disbelief that someone would go to the extent of doing the things that she was telling me what happened,” she said.<\/p>\n
One neighbor, however, said those charges should not have been brought against Rogers. They also said that on the day of the alleged assault, the mother and another man were outside arguing with Rogers over $20.<\/p>\n
The neighbor said he used to live in the flats and knows how many people live there now.<\/p>\n
“If she was raped, why didn’t anyone inside hear her? The rooms are connected. So how can he rape her when all these people are there,\u201d asked the neighbor.<\/p>\n
The neighbor also said he saw Rogers get arrested.<\/p>\n
Two neighbors News4JAX spoke with said they strongly believe Rogers was wrongly arrested and charged with a crime he did not commit.<\/p>\n
The mother, however, is confident that the police got the right person.<\/p>\n
Investigators are still working to determine a motive and whether there is any connection between Rogers and the victim.<\/p>\n
