The woman who was in critical condition after being shot in Inola has died, authorities say.<\/p>\n
Related story:<\/strong> Identified shot woman, dead in Inola; Suspect in custody<\/p>\n This is a breaking news update as of 4\/20\/2023 9:05 PM Below is the original report:<\/strong><\/p>\n A man is accused of shooting his girlfriend in the head in Inola Wednesday night, Rogers County deputies said.<\/p>\n Authorities said Jericho James Haverstick called police around 8 p.m. and said he had been shot in the head. Deputies later found the woman in a field along Highway 595.<\/p>\n Related story: <\/strong>They find a woman with a gunshot wound to the head in Inola; Deputies are investigating<\/strong><\/p>\n Officers said when they arrived at the scene they found the victim with what appeared to be a gunshot wound to the mouth.<\/p>\n Deputies said during their interview that Haverstick gave conflicting reports to investigators and claimed his girlfriend shot herself.<\/p>\n Haverstick later admitted to firing the gun and claimed his girlfriend was walking in front of him, officers said.<\/p>\n Authorities said the victim’s injuries did not match Haverstick’s stories and said it appears she was shot while she was lying down.<\/p>\n Investigators say the victim is alive but unconscious.<\/p>\n “Now we know that we have a young lady in the hospital in a very serious condition. I don’t know what the medical terms would be,” said Sheriff Scott Walton of the Rogers County Sheriff’s Office. “But we’re certainly concerned about his condition.”<\/p>\n Walton said Haverstick is well known to local law enforcement. “He has an interesting recent past,” Walton said. “Recently admitted from Rogers State University, he’s been with the sheriff’s office here several times, definitely a man who sticks with law enforcement.”<\/p>\n The sheriff said there has been a history of calls with him and that even others were concerned about the way he was acting.<\/p>\n “They told me there was a report of their claim of a burglary or attempted burglary or whatever, and it had the neighbors in the area a little concerned as well,” Walton said.<\/p>\n For deputies, the next steps are to put all the pieces together and figure out exactly what happened.<\/p>\n “It’s just processing the information we have, processing the evidence,” Walton said. “There are no additional witnesses to speak to, and our thoughts and prayers certainly go out to this young woman.”<\/p>\n Haverstick is in prison for shooting with intent to kill.<\/p>\n
