Boerne City Council has a new mayor.<\/p>\n
Frank Ritchie, a political newcomer, easily beat city councilwoman Nina Woolard in the May 6 election: 76% to 24%.<\/p>\n
The current mayor, Tim Handren, did not seek re-election.<\/p>\n
Ritchie is a mechanic who owns an auto repair shop in Boerne. He declined KSAT’s request for a campaign photo.<\/p>\n
Still, many grew to know his name in a campaign fueled by grassroots support.<\/p>\n
Ritchie worked on the growth management platform in the fast-growing city. He didn’t raise funds because he didn’t want to owe anyone anything.<\/p>\n
In a March 9 post on his public Facebook page, Ritchie said he was choosing not to campaign as normal.<\/p>\n
\u201cI chose to run for mayor for many reasons, but I also note that no one else stepped up other than my opponent Nina and I wish her the best,\u201d Ritchie posted. \u201cIn terms of my qualifications, in all honesty, I’m probably not qualified if there is such a thing as being qualified for politics. I am honest, hardworking and believe in being transparent and holding office with integrity and passion for a city I love dearly.”<\/p>\n
