Authorities have opened an investigation into a shooting in Denham Springs.<\/p>\n

DSPD spokesman Sgt. Scott Sterling said officers were dispatched to Spring Park Plaza, a strip mall located on Range Avenue north of Interstate 12, around 4:30 p.m. Thursday. Officers were responding to a “disturbance” between a man and a woman, Sterling said.<\/p>\n

Shortly after law enforcement arrived, gunfire was exchanged, resulting in one officer being shot. That officer was taken to a hospital with injuries, though the extent is not yet clear, Sterling said.<\/p>\n

“There is an investigation into a shooting, the scene is secure and the investigation is ongoing,” Livingston Parish Sheriff Jason Ard said.<\/p>\n

The incident occurred at a shopping center on Range Avenue, north of Interstate-12. So far, responding agencies include the Louisiana State Police, the Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office and the Denham Springs Police Department.<\/p>\n

No other information was immediately available.<\/p>\n
