A suspect who suffered a gunshot wound after shooting a Denham Springs police officer has died from his injuries, authorities said.<\/p>\n

Justin Roberts, 30, died at the hospital Thursday night, Livingston Parish Sheriff Jason Ard said.<\/p>\n

“As I said before, there are still a lot of questions to be answered in this case,” Ard said. “Time is obviously a factor. We continue to process the scene with our partners.”<\/p>\n

A shooting happened around 4:30 p.m. Thursday in the parking lot of Spring Park Plaza, which is home to nearly a dozen stores on Range Avenue, north of Interstate-12. Another shooting occurred further north after the suspect, now identified as Roberts, fled.<\/p>\n

The unidentified police officer and Roberts suffered gunshot wounds and were transported to local hospitals in “critical condition.” <\/p>\n

Ard said the investigation is ongoing. <\/p>\n

“Please keep our Denham Springs officer and our law enforcement family in your prayers,” Ard said.<\/p>\n
