MINNEAPOLIS — <\/span>A fight broke out at a political party campaign event for Minneapolis City Council candidates on Saturday, leading to a call to the police and injuries after the brawl sparked by heated disagreements over nominations.<\/p>\n At least one person was taken to a hospital for non-life-threatening injuries and another was treated at the scene of the Democratic-Farmer-Labor endorsement convention for Minneapolis Ward 10, the Star reported tribune<\/p>\n Officers made no arrests at the Ella Baker Global Studies & Humanities Magnet School, Minneapolis police spokesman Brian Feintech told the Star Tribune.<\/p>\n Video posted on social media showed the disturbance starting after supporters of Minneapolis Councilwoman Aisha Chughtai took the stage, sparking an uproar among supporters of her rival, Nasri Warsame.<\/p>\n Some Warsame fans jumped on stage, shouting, banging tables and waving signs, the Star Tribune reported.<\/p>\n Convention chairman Sam Doten called the behavior shameful and adjourned the event without electing a candidate, saying it was no longer safe, the Star Tribune reported.<\/p>\n Chughtai said in a statement on his website that more than a dozen of his supporters and DFL volunteers were assaulted, claiming that Warsame delegates “charged the stage assaulting me and my supporters when I was about to start my convention speech.”<\/p>\n Warsame claimed in a Facebook post after his campaign manager was assaulted by a Chughtai campaign staffer, the Star Tribune reported.<\/p>\n Minnesota DFL Chairman Ken Martin said in a statement posted on Twitter Saturday evening that “the assaults and violence at the Ward 10 convention were perpetrated by supporters of Nasri Warsame.” Martin denounced the violence and apologized to Chughtai and his followers and staff.<\/p>\n The Minnesota DFL is an affiliate of the national Democratic Party.<\/p>\n
