The new Willy Wonka prequel, simply titled Wonka, looks like a film that celebrates the inherent positivity of imagination and the joy of cinematic escapism. Timothee Chalamet touched on this and more in a new interview with Vogue<\/a>.<\/p>\n “In an age and climate of intense political rhetoric, when there’s so much bad news all the time, you expect this to be a piece of chocolate,” Chalamet said. “To work on something that has a young, uncynical audience, it was a great joy. That’s why I was attracted to it.”<\/p>\n The Timothee Chalamet-directed film has been in the works since 2016, with Chalamet due in 2021. The film is not a prequel to the Gene Wilder film, but the actual 1964 book by Roald Dahl.<\/p>\n In April, the first trailer for the film was shown during the presentation of Warner Bros. at this year’s Cinemacon. Exclusive images from the upcoming film have been unveiled, offering a glimpse into the early stages of Willy Wonka’s journey. The footage featured Wonka’s extensive travels around the world as he perfected his craft and explored the art of chocolate making within the confines of his own room.<\/p>\n In addition to Chalamet, the Wonka cast includes Keegan-Michael Key, Rowan Atkinson, Sally Hawkins, Olivia Colman and Jim Carter. The movie will be at least partly a musical.<\/p>\n Wonka, directed and co-written by Paul King, opens December 15, only in theaters.<\/p>\n
