Walt Disney World has just announced that it is pulling the plug on “Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser,” its two-night immersive Star Wars experience.<\/p>\n
In a prepared statement, Walt Disney World announced the closing:<\/p>\n
“Today, Walt Disney World announces that Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser will make its final voyage on September 28-30, 2023.<\/p>\n
Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser is one of our most creative projects ever and has been praised by our guests and recognized for setting a new bar for innovation and immersive entertainment. This premium experience gave us the opportunity to try new things on a smaller scale of 100 rooms, and we’ll use what we’ve learned to create future experiences that can reach more customers and fans.<\/p>\n
We will contact guests booked for travel departing on or after September 30th to discuss their options and modify their plans. To give priority to these guests, we are pausing new bookings until May 26.<\/p>\n
We are extremely proud of all the cast members and imagineers who brought Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser to life and look forward to providing guests with an outstanding experience on the remaining voyages over the coming months.”<\/p>\n
Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser opened in March 2022 next to Disney’s Hollywood Studios and has since earned some of the highest satisfaction ratings among guests who have booked a stay.<\/p>\n
Guests staying for 2 nights were fully immersed in the Star Wars universe, with everything from meals to lightsaber training included. It also included a “trip” to visit Batuu, also known as “Galaxy’s Edge”.<\/p>\n
The “standard sample cabin rates” listed for a cabin with two guests totaled $4,809 for the two-night all-inclusive experience.<\/p>\n
Disney has not announced what will happen to the building after the closing. As a Star Wars fan who was priced out of the inclusive rate, I would love for it to remain a Star Wars resort with nightly room rates and the ability to purchase things like food, even if I’m not a guest of the complex<\/p>\n
