Sheriff Mark Lamb of Pinal County, Arizona, claimed Saturday that after he was asked to speak at a Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) event this summer, he was not invited on Friday because of his conservative politics. <\/p>\n
“We are quite disappointed by a call we received yesterday,” Lamb said in a Twitter video on his “Mark Lamb for United States Senate” handle. “For those of you who don’t know, we lost our 22-year-old son, 11-month-old granddaughter and future daughter-in-law in a tragic car accident in December.” <\/p>\n
He added that the suspect who crashed into them has been charged with DUI. <\/p>\n
That’s why, Lamb said, he and his wife, Janel, were “honored” when they were asked to be keynote speakers at a Phoenix MADD event in July. <\/p>\n
ARIZONA SHERIFF MARK LAMB RUNS FOR US SENATE SEAT HELD BY SINEMA<\/strong><\/p>\n Pinal County Sheriff Mark Lamb said MADD asked him not to speak at a July event because of its politics. <\/span> (Mark Lamb for the US Senate\/Twitter)<\/span><\/p>\n Janel said they would have been “perfect” for the event because “we’re in law enforcement and we’ve also lost our kids to a drunk driving accident.” <\/p>\n Sheriff Lamb added: “We were really looking forward to it, so you can imagine our disappointment and surprise yesterday when we received a call disinviting us as keynote speakers.”<\/p>\n He said it was because of his politics. <\/p>\n “The things I stand for have offended a few people, people who don’t know me, who only listen to the media, have filed a complaint with MADD nationally.” <\/p>\n Lamb said he also found it “disturbing” to discover that MADD said it “supports fair and equitable enforcement of traffic safety. MADD recognizes that we need to do better to address inequities at traffic stops.”<\/p>\n
