The Walker Police Department is participating in the “Click It or Ticket” campaign, officials announced ahead of Memorial Day weekend.<\/p>\n
Walker police will conduct “enhanced seat belt and child restraint enforcement” for the campaign, which runs through June 4.<\/p>\n
“Make sure everyone in your vehicle is properly restrained and all children are secured in proper child restraints,” Walker police officials said on social media.<\/p>\n
Sponsored by the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the “Click It or Ticket” campaign aims to raise awareness of how seat belt use can save hundreds of lives a year in Louisiana , said LHSC Executive Director Lisa Freeman.<\/p>\n
“In Louisiana, less than 14 percent of drivers and passengers are not wearing seat belts, but these occupants account for more than half of all motor vehicle fatalities in this state,” Freeman said. “The numbers don’t lie. Wearing a seat belt dramatically increases your chances of surviving a motor vehicle accident.”<\/p>\n
Along with the Walker Police Department, the Denham Springs Police Department announced earlier this month that it was participating in the program.<\/p>\n
