A baffling bathroom break-in Wednesday morning left residents of a Brickell apartment building in shock. <\/p>\n
Anthony Valdez, a tenant in the building, was startled when he heard strange noises coming from the bathroom. <\/p>\n
“We heard a noise coming from the bathroom,” Valdez said.<\/p>\n
The incident was caught on video and has since gone viral on Only in Dade. <\/p>\n
Initially, Valdez thought the noise was the work of a rat or a prankster. <\/p>\n
“…[My roommate] she thought he was playing a joke on her. So he started laughing and then he started recording because he thought it was a joke,” Valdez explained.<\/p>\n
However, the situation took a strange turn when Valdez saw a person’s fingers desperately digging through the wall, claiming they had been kidnapped and needed help. <\/p>\n
Frightened, Valdez and his roommate decided not to interact with the person and waited for the police to arrive.<\/p>\n
Miami police arrived at the apartment building at SW 10th Street and 3rd Avenue, initially treating the situation as a possible kidnapping case.<\/p>\n
However, upon further investigation, officers discovered that the individual was under the influence of drugs. <\/p>\n
“There was a towel that was wrapped around the handle, like you have the door locked,” said Miami Police Public Information Officer Mike Vega.<\/p>\n
Vega explained that the individual admitted to making up a false story after using a mixture of hallucinogenic drugs. <\/p>\n
Officers interviewed other residents of the building and discovered the individual was a guest at an illegal vacation rental.<\/p>\n
The holes in the wall have since been fixed, but Valdez remains amazed by the experience. <\/p>\n
“I mean, you know, we didn’t know who lived next door to us,” he said.<\/p>\n
While police told NBC6 that the individual committed a crime by breaking down apartment walls, investigators said it has yet to be determined if charges will be filed in this strange case as the investigation continues.<\/p>\n
