Until the end of April, Lauren Lipuma was the editor of The Antarctic Sun<\/a>, the largest and longest running newspaper in the world’s least populated continent. When we first talk, on Zoom in January, she’s sitting in a conference room that looks like every other conference room. Except that this one is on a peninsula jutting out from an island off the edge of Antarctica, in McMurdo, which consists of 146 buildings and about a thousand summer residents, and is by far the largest settlement in the continent<\/p>\n

Although she occasionally works with a freelance network of scientists and others who live on the ice, Lipuma writes most of the stories herself.<\/p>\n
