The Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office is warning drivers that Georgia Highway 400 is not their personal racetrack after the fasting driver went 178 mph in Ferrari. Why some “super speeders” will end up paying more if they get caught.<\/p>\n
FORYSTH COUNTY, Ga.<\/strong> – <\/span>The Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office says “super speeds” are becoming a major problem, especially at the Georgia 400, as drivers turn highways and other roads into their own personal racetrack. <\/p>\n “We’ve seen a tremendous amount of extremely excessive speeds in the hundreds, triple digits,” Lt. Scotty Spriggs said.<\/p>\n Lt. Spriggs is a 27-year veteran of the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office. He says speeding in his county, specifically on Georgia 400, has gotten out of hand. <\/p>\n “Three officers in probably 10 to 15 minutes, we’d all have at least one person probably going over 90 miles per hour,” he said.<\/p>\n A deputy recently clocked a Ferrari at 178 mph on GA 400, more than two and a half times the limit. The deputy didn’t catch the driver, but it’s the fastest speed they’ve ever recorded with a radar gun here. <\/p>\n “I can’t even remotely imagine what would happen if they hit a deer or if they hit another vehicle at that speed,” Spriggs said.<\/p>\n Georgia has a speeding law that kicks in when a driver goes over 75 miles per hour on a two-lane highway or over 85 miles per hour on highways. Exceeding these speeds carries an additional $200 fine. <\/p>\n “When you’re doing 95 and 100 there’s no way you can’t tell,” Lt. Spriggs said.<\/p>\n Forsyth County is taking the issue of speeding seriously because it is an important safety issue for everyone on the road. Spriggs says to be aware if you’re speeding in his county.<\/p>\n “We’re very aggressive, we have the support of the sheriff and we have the support of the community on this as well, because they’re sick of it,” he said.<\/p>\n Spriggs says this isn’t just happening here, it’s happening all over the state. <\/p>\n The agency is asking people not only to slow down, but also to pay more attention when behind the wheel. <\/p>\n
