Billionaire George Soros, a prominent philanthropist and contributor to liberal political causes, has tapped his son Alexander Soros, 37, to head his charitable committee for open society foundations and political action, a spokesperson of the foundation.\n <\/p>\n

In an interview with Wall Street Journal<\/a> On Sunday, Alexander Soros revealed that he will chair the Open Society Foundations, Soros’ main philanthropic organization. While Alexander Soros had continued to appear as the foundation’s vice-chairman in recent months, he was appointed chairman of the board in December.\n <\/p>\n

Alexander Soros, who goes by Alex, told the Journal that he is “more political” than his father and hopes to embrace a few different causes with the foundation, particularly voting rights and abortion rights.\n <\/p>\n

He recently met with members of the Biden Administration, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and some heads of state, including Brazilian President Luiz In\u00e1cio Lula da Silva and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, to advocate some of the important problems for the family.\n <\/p>\n

George Soros, 92, is worth an estimated $6.7 billion Forbes<\/a>, but its fundamentals are worth much more than that. He has given $32 billion to his foundation, according to his website. The organization was founded in 1979 with the stated goals of working for justice, democratic governance and human rights around the world. It has given out $19 billion in grants since its founding.\n <\/p>\n

His political action committee, Democracy PAC, made $81 billion in political donations during the 2019-2020 election cycle, according to Open Secrets, which tracks political donations and spending.\n <\/p>\n

\n

George Soros made his fortune as a hedge fund manager. He is a frequent target of attacks by conservatives as well as anti-Semitic conspiracy theories.\n <\/p>\n
