BOSTON – Green Line commuters are frustrated with another problem on the T after a streetcar derailed at Packard’s Corner in Allston on Monday.<\/p>\n
“The city itself needs to do a lot more to like invest in infrastructure and make sure this doesn’t keep happening through the T lines,” said Maggie Onder, a Green Line commuter.<\/p>\n
The MBTA says all 30 passengers on the train got off safely, but it took about four hours to get the train back on track.<\/p>\n
“We got to Blandford Street and they said, yeah, I’m sorry, the train isn’t running, we’re taking it out of service, like a bit of bad luck,” said Julia Beal, a Green Line rider. “It’s kind of frustrating when you pay $90 a month to take the train and then the train doesn’t run.”<\/p>\n
MBTA General Manager Phillip Eng says it appears the train tracks are to blame after the center wheels came off the track.<\/p>\n
Crews are now working through the night to fix these tracks at this busy intersection between Commonwealth Ave and Brighton Ave.<\/p>\n
“Preliminarily, the distance between the rails was not where it should have been, so we are assessing how this happened,” said Eng.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, shuttle buses will replace the Green Line from Kenmore to Washington Street for the rest of the night. The MBTA is working to resume Green Line service Tuesday morning.<\/p>\n
“The shuttle buses are not reliable in the slightest when this happens or something like that happens on the green line, everybody’s delayed, people are late for work, it’s really a problem,” Onder said.<\/p>\n
“I take it to work and so I’m going to have to Uber or get on like 3 buses to get where I need to go, it’s not going to be fun,” said Aliya Zwyer.<\/p>\n
Eng says he hears those frustrations and will work to fix that stretch of the Green Line as soon as possible.<\/p>\n
“The team needs to come together well, we have a lot of priorities in competition in terms of where we need to tackle, this is one of those we will look to accelerate,” said Eng.<\/p>\n
Eng says they already had plans to fix that area of \u200b\u200bthe Green Line this summer, but now they can move that work after this derailment.<\/p>\n
