Judge Richard Ambro handed down his sentence just before 1 p.m. Randolph was convicted at trial in February of 13 charges, including aggravated vehicular homicide. <\/p>\n
Randolph, 43, had three prior DWI convictions, a suspended license and was believed to have had an anti-DWI interlock device in his vehicle before the crash that killed Jonathan Flores-Maldonado. Randolph had made a court appearance related to a previous DWI conviction just two days before the fatal crash. <\/p>\n
Flores-Maldonado, 27, had dreamed of becoming a doctor, said his father, Victor Maldonado. <\/p>\n
During the trial, prosecutors said Randolph had spent the night before the Jan. 12, 2020, 4 a.m. crash drinking and fighting in fights that were caught on security cameras at Jake’s 58 Casino in Iceland <\/p>\n
Police saw his Cadillac driving erratically on a rain-soaked William Floyd Parkway, where an officer attempted to pull him over. Prosecutors said Randolph was trying to elude police when his vehicle hit the back of Flores-Maldonado’s Ford Escape with “missile force,” spinning it and dragging it 600 feet down the road. highway <\/p>\n
A toxicology expert testified that Randolph’s blood alcohol level was three times the legal limit 2 1\/2 hours after the crash. <\/p>\n
