The expansion of this chapter refers to foreign bodies, including button batteries, other plastic objects, glass objects, magnetic metal objects, non-magnetic things, rubber bands, food, non-organic objects and sharp objects that enter into or through an orifice.

The chapter on Diseases of the locomotor system has the second place with the most changes, with 36 additions. The reasons for these changes are age-related osteoporosis and other osteoporosis with left, right and unspecified pelvic sites.

Diseases of the Eye and Appendices, Chapter 7, has 34 additions and one deletion. New codes include nonproliferative/proliferative sickle cell retinopathy, specific eye muscle entrapment, and foreign body sensation. Changes also include laterality.

The fourth most important changes are in Chapter 21 (Factors influencing health status and contact with health services), with 30 additions and six deletions. As stated before, deletions are due to extended diagnostic codes. The new codes include newborn observation for suspected condition ruled out, carrier of the bacterium Acinetobacter baumannii, encounter for prophylactic measures, family history of specific colon polyps, and type of caregiver noncompliance. Social Determinants of Health (SDoH) have also been improved, with new codes for child custody and parent/adult-child conflicts.

Topics for the new code can be found in the materials for the March and September 2022 Coordination and Maintenance Committee meetings. Presentations, recordings and meeting materials can be found on the CDC website.

The ICD-10-CM guidance changes were not published with the new codes. This document is a nearby attraction. Changes to the guidelines and details of the new codes will be discussed during the August 15 edition of Monitor on Mondays.

[ad_2]

Source link

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) released the ICD-10-CM codes for fiscal year (FY) 2024 on Friday, June 16.
