A small plane crashed into Lake Michigan near Beaver Island Friday morning, officials confirmed, killing one person.<\/p>\n

The US Coast Guard’s 9th District, which covers all of the Great Lakes, says they were notified of a plane crash and were able to get to the scene quickly because they were conducting training exercises in the area.<\/p>\n

When the Coast Guard arrived, they found a debris field and a person in the water. That person was taken to a local hospital with injuries that included lacerations to the head.<\/p>\n

A second person had gone on the plane and the Coast Guard called divers from the Charlevoix Sheriff’s Department. One person was found on the plane and was unresponsive.<\/p>\n

The authorities say that the exact time of the plane crash is unknown at the moment. The cause of the accident is still unknown.<\/p>\n
