{"id":28299,"date":"2023-06-29T03:29:33","date_gmt":"2023-06-29T03:29:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/news24feed.com\/?p=28299"},"modified":"2023-06-29T03:29:35","modified_gmt":"2023-06-29T03:29:35","slug":"possible-electrical-problem-along-orange-line-track-sparks-fire-at-mbta-station-boston-25-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news24feed.com\/?p=28299","title":{"rendered":"Possible &#8216;electrical problem&#8217; along Orange Line track sparks fire at MBTA station &#8211; Boston 25 News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-tl066j-0 rQkyc body-paragraph\">BOSTON &#8211; Smoke filled the underground train station at Tufts Medical Center Wednesday after a fire broke out along the Orange Line tracks between North Station and Back Bay. <\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-tl066j-0 rQkyc body-paragraph\">More than a dozen Boston firefighters were seen responding to the fire inside the station around 12 p.m. <\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-tl066j-0 rQkyc body-paragraph\">Dandrea Hobbs was on one of the trains with two young children when they were told to evacuate.<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-tl066j-0 rQkyc body-paragraph\">&#8220;A lot of people were panicking telling us to get off the train, get out of the station, so we had to hurry up and run and get out of the station,&#8221; Hobbs said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-tl066j-0 rQkyc body-paragraph\">The district&#8217;s fire chief believes an electrical problem sparked the flames along Third Avenue.<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-tl066j-0 rQkyc body-paragraph\">&#8220;Everybody was able to get out okay, they evacuated the station pretty quickly, stopped all the trains and were able to cut the power,&#8221; said borough fire chief Robert Counihan.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ImageMetadata__MetadataParagraph-sc-1gn0vty-0 gAFIWJ image-metadata\"><span class=\"title\">Orange line fire <\/span>(@Windtrain1\/Twitter)<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-tl066j-0 rQkyc body-paragraph\">Power was cut to the station so crews could fix the tracks after the flames were extinguished, and luckily no trains were running through the fire at the time.<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-tl066j-0 rQkyc body-paragraph\">&#8220;It was actually 200 feet into the tunnel, then the train was in the station at the time, they were able to stop all the trains, so the trains weren&#8217;t affected at all,&#8221; Counihan said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-tl066j-0 rQkyc body-paragraph\">Still, it was frustrating for drivers to deal with more delays along the T because of it.<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-tl066j-0 rQkyc body-paragraph\">Hobbs says he also wishes there was quicker communication about what was going on.<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-tl066j-0 rQkyc body-paragraph\">&#8220;I feel like the operator could have announced the train going down, there was no announcement they kept saying it was delayed because nobody knew anything,&#8221; Hobbs said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-tl066j-0 rQkyc body-paragraph\">The MBTA tweeted updates on this fire and delays throughout the day.<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-tl066j-0 rQkyc body-paragraph\">The problem has been resolved and trains are back to normal for the afternoon commute.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cmg-cmg-tv-10020-prod.cdn.arcpublishing.com\/resizer\/cWPrSfYBPzMTQn1JQBzSIh9Drvg=\/1440x0\/filters:format(jpg):quality(70)\/d1hfln2sfez66z.cloudfront.net\/06-28-2023\/t_1ee413bba9f04115ad034412610e9208_name_file_1920x1080_1200_v3_1_.jpg\" width=\"1440\" height=\"0\" loading=\"lazy\" alt=\"\" title=\"\"><\/p>\n<p class=\"ImageMetadata__MetadataParagraph-sc-1gn0vty-0 gAFIWJ image-metadata\"><span class=\"title\">Fire along the Orange Line causes delays <\/span><span>Credit: @Windtrain1\/Twitter <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-tl066j-0 rQkyc body-paragraph\">This is a developing story.
