An El Ni\u00f1o pattern weakens trade winds and pushes warm water toward America&#8217;s West Coast, National Ocean Service <a href=\"https:\/\/oceanservice.noaa.gov\/facts\/ninonina.html\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"color-link\" title=\"https:\/\/oceanservice.noaa.gov\/facts\/ninonina.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" data-ga-track=\"ExternalLink:https:\/\/oceanservice.noaa.gov\/facts\/ninonina.html\" aria-label=\"says\">he says<\/a>, making areas of the northern US and Canada drier and warmer than usual.  The US Gulf Coast and Southeast often see wetter than usual weather and increased flooding.  El Ni\u00f1o is expected to increase global temperatures over the next 9 to 12 months, the WMO predicted.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"subhead-embed color-accent bg-base font-accent font-size text-align\">What to watch out for<\/h2>\n<p>More records broken.  The return of the El Ni\u00f1o weather pattern for the first time in four years means more extreme weather and an acceleration in global warming, which would mean more record heat next year.
