A TV reporter got the shock of her life when she rushed to cover a breaking news story, only to discover her boyfriend was on the scene, down on one knee and with a ring in his hand.<\/p>\n

Valerie Bell, a reporter for WBMA in Birmingham, Alabama, drove to what she believed to be a domestic violence incident near a lake, where she stopped in a car and spoke to a police officer. McClatchy News reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n

But behind her was her firefighter flame, Blake Bjornson, who was holding a box as he knelt on the floor.<\/p>\n

He popped the question and she quickly said, “Yes.”<\/p>\n

The two lovebirds then shared an engagement smooch in front of the assembled first responders.<\/p>\n

“I’m just trying to process what just happened. Oh my God! I thought there were kids in the water. This is so bad,” she said in the video when she realized she would be the one to make the move.<\/p>\n

“Here I was, thinking I was on the breaking news,” Bell wrote on Instagram<\/a>. “But little did he know, it was all part of a massive collaborative plan to pull off a very big surprise.”<\/p>\n

She later thanked Bjornson, WBMA chief photographer Bill Castle and first responders for making her day so special.<\/p>\n

“I can’t wait to spend forever with you. I’m the luckiest girl,” Bell tweeted<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The TV station said that “Bjornson, who works as a firefighter, rallied some of his friends (including) the Pell City Police Department to help pull off the story of the proposal of a lifetime.”<\/p>\n

Later, the police also gave him a shout.<\/p>\n

“Congratulations Valerie Bell and Blake! Thank you for letting us be a small part of your special day,” the department he said on Facebook<\/a>.<\/p>\n

On its website, WBMA says, “Always curious and inquisitive, Valerie’s dream has been to be a reporter since she was in the third grade.”<\/p>\n
