The Associated Press<\/span><\/p>\n STOCKHOLM — <\/span>Swedish prosecutors have charged climate activist Greta Thunberg with disobedience to law enforcement in connection with a protest in Malm\u00f6 last month.<\/p>\n Local newspaper Sydsvenskan reported on Wednesday that Thunberg was arrested with other activists after they disrupted traffic at the Malm\u00f6 port oil terminal on June 19.<\/p>\n A brief statement from Swedish prosecutors on Wednesday said a “young woman” was charged with disobedience because she “refused to comply with police orders to leave the site” during the protest. The statement did not identify the woman, but the spokeswoman for the Swedish Prosecutor’s Office. Annika Collin confirmed that she was Thunberg.<\/p>\n Sydsvenskan said the 20-year-old Swedish activist will be called to trial at the end of July. Prosecutor Charlotte Ottosen told the newspaper that the offense of disobedience is usually punishable by fines.<\/p>\n Thunberg’s media team did not immediately respond to a request for comment.<\/p>\n Thunberg inspired a global youth movement calling for stronger efforts to fight climate change after holding weekly protests outside the Swedish Parliament starting in 2018.<\/p>\n
