In the women&#8217;s competition, defending champion Miki Sudo won gold for the ninth time, finishing in 39.5, eating so quickly the judges had to count to figure out her exact number.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The event was initially delayed by heavy rain, but after a two-hour wait the show went on as planned.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2730\u2730\u2730<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">REYNOSO will host the MATERNAL HEALTH EXPO<\/p>\n<p>DOWNTOWN BROOKLYN &#8211; Borough President Antonio Reynoso will host a maternal health expo at Borough Hall next weekend.<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> with activities aimed at supporting pregnancy journeys, including workshops on topics such as paid maternity leave and health insurance, prenatal nutrition, safe sleep and breastfeeding. McCray, 68, and de Blasio, 62, met while working for then-Mayor David Dinkins and have been husband and wife since 1994. They chose not to divorce, which would also have forced a breakup their financial and real estate assets.  .<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The couple told the New York Times in an interview that the demanding schedule of being mayor took into account the strain on the marriage.  &#8220;And that took a little bit of the soul out of us,&#8221; de Blasio said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2730\u2730\u2730<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">AN INMATE DIES AT RIKERS, 23RD INMATE DEATH THIS YEAR<\/p>\n<p>RIKERS ISLAND &#8211; Rikers inmate Felix Taveras died at the age of 40 at Elmhurst Hospital shortly after midnight Wednesday.<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/newyork\/news\/department-of-correction-say-there-will-be-discipline-following-overnight-death-of-another-inmate\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">CBS reports<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, after reporting chest pains to prison staff, after suffering a seizure and being treated with the anti-overdose drug Narcan at the island&#8217;s medical clinic.  This is the 23rd death of an inmate in the city&#8217;s prison system so far this year, and at least the fourth at Rikers, including a<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">died in May under suspicious circumstances<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and advocates expressed outrage: The Lonesome HALTS Campaign said in a press release, \u201cThirty-nine people have died in the past two and a half years because of the policy choices of New York officials.\u201d Meanwhile, the Department of Corrections stated that it had discovered procedural violations in this incident and would issue suspensions to the employees, but did not elaborate.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">City officials have been unable to get Rikers under control as a plan to close the island&#8217;s jail complex has been delayed by the pandemic slowdown, including work to expand the detention center. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) after Transportation Security Administration (TSA) agents spotted a loaded handgun in his carry-on bag. the man when entering a security checkpoint. <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The TSA immediately notified the Port Authority Police, who confiscated the firearm, which contained 10 rounds, and arrested the man on gun charges.  The man, in addition to his arrest, also faces a stiff federal financial penalty.  Federal penalties can be as high as $15,000 for bringing a gun into an airport checkpoint, depending on the circumstances.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This was the second gun TSA agents have seized in a week.  On June 29, they stopped a man working at the airport with a gun in his backpack, arrested him, and confiscated that gun as well.  In just the first five days of July, TSA agents had already detected seven firearms at airport checkpoints so far this year, tying the number seized in 2022.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2730\u2730\u2730<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">THE CITY COUNCIL SURVEYS THE CITY&#8217;S SMOKE RESPONSE<\/p>\n<p>CIVIC CENTER \u2014 The City Council plans to hold a hearing to investigate the mayor&#8217;s response to smoke hazards from wildfires last month,<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2023\/07\/04\/nyc-council-to-probe-city-halls-response-to-toxic-canadian-wildfire-smoke\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">reports the New York Post<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, in response to criticism that emergency measures were implemented late and haphazardly, in particular that air quality warnings were issued shortly before midnight on the first day of worsening conditions, long after the risks were obvious.
