MEDFORD, Mass. – A teenager has been arrested in connection with an attack on a woman on a nighttime stroll in Medford earlier this month.<\/p>\n
Nature Moncoeur, 18, will be arraigned Tuesday in Somerville District Court on charges of assault and battery and attempted kidnapping, according to the Medford Police Department.<\/p>\n
Officers who responded to the area of \u200b\u200bMain and Royall streets around 10:45 p.m. July 3 learned that a woman in her 20s had been physically assaulted, police said.<\/p>\n
The victim first noticed the suspect near the intersection of Boston Avenue and College Avenue and realized he was following her, police said.<\/p>\n
“When she reached the end of Royall Street on Main Street, the man ran up to her, grabbed her and punched her several times, police said in a news release. “After a brief struggle in that the woman was struggling and screaming loudly, the suspect fled down Royall Street toward College Avenue.”<\/p>\n
Medford suspect arrested <\/span>(Nature Moncoeur – Medford Police Department)<\/p>\n <\/a>The woman was taken to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries.<\/p>\n Last week, police released surveillance video of a man suspected of the attack. After a weeklong investigation, Moncoeur was arrested Tuesday morning by officers serving a warrant at 278 Powder House Boulevard in Somerville.<\/p>\n In a statement, Medford Police Chief Jack Buckley said, “Thanks to invaluable teamwork between our neighboring agencies and the community, we were able to quickly apprehend and get a dangerous suspect off the streets to ensure our community stay safe.”<\/p>\n An investigation remains ongoing.<\/p>\n This is a developing story.
