A search is underway for a suspect who opened fire Saturday morning at a hospital in Portland, Ore., authorities said. <\/p>\n
Portland Police Bureau Sgt. Kevin Allen told reporters at a news conference that the shooting was reported around 11 a.m. PT at Legacy Good Samaritan Medical Center in northwest Portland. <\/p>\n
Allen said “one or more people were injured by gunfire,” but declined to provide details on the exact number of victims or their conditions.<\/p>\n
Responding law enforcement officers locked down the hospital and began “fanning the entire neighborhood” in search of the suspect, Allen said. <\/p>\n
A nearby Fred Meyer grocery store was also evacuated and searched, but the suspect was not located inside, he said. <\/p>\n
A possible motive for the shooting has not been reported, nor have details been given about the circumstances that led to it.<\/p>\n
A shelter-in-place order remained in effect for the hospital, Allen said, with the situation “considered an active tactical incident.”<\/p>\n
Jonathan Avery, a spokesman for Legacy Health, said that while “the hospital is safe at this time, we remain in a lockdown situation,” and all visitors, patients and staff were asked to stay away. <\/p>\n
