DEDHAM, Mass. — A Mansfield woman accused of killing her Boston police officer boyfriend is due back in Norfolk Superior Court Tuesday afternoon.<\/p>\n
Karen Read is charged with second degree murder in the death of Boston Police Officer John O’Keefe.<\/p>\n
Read is accused of hitting and killing O’Keefe with his SUV while dropping him off at a party at a fellow police officer’s house in Canton in January 2022.<\/p>\n
O’Keefe’s battered and bruised body was discovered in a snow bank outside the home the next morning.<\/p>\n
Prosecutors allege Read was drunk behind the wheel when he hit O’Keefe while making a three-point turn in the driveway.<\/p>\n
Read has maintained his innocence from the beginning, and his defense team says there is evidence that not only proves he is innocent, but also points to a cover-up.<\/p>\n
Defense attorneys have alleged that O’Keefe was brutally beaten and attacked by a dog inside the Canton home and that Read is being framed for his murder.<\/p>\n

O’Keefe, 46, was off duty at the time of his death. <\/span>(Boston 25 News, Boston Police Department)<\/p>\n From Today’s show<\/a> a CourtTV,<\/a> the case has been garnering national attention as it inches closer to trial.<\/p>\n Read has also hired some high-profile lawyers, including one who represented Kevin Spacey in his Nantucket case. In court Tuesday, a judge will rule on a pair of motions aimed at maintaining a fair trial.<\/p>\n The prosecution filed a motion aimed at barring lawyers for both sides from making “out-of-court statements” in the future.<\/p>\n The defense plans to oppose the gag order and has also filed its own motion asking that a new judge preside over the trial.
