MASHPEE, Mass. — A Mashpee man has died after an exterior fire that was likely the result of an open burn Monday, the district attorney’s office said. Roger Collin, 86, was found dead outside a residence on Hooppole Road in Mashpee, Cape and Islands, First Assistant District Attorney Russ Eonas said in a statement Monday. No foul play is suspected. Around 11:45 a.m., Mashpee police and firefighters received a 911 call from neighbors about a fire outside 274 Hooppole Road. NORTH BRADDOCK, Pa. – Three people were taken to hospitals after a two-vehicle crash in North Braddock Monday afternoon. According to Allegheny County police, a call for the crash at Lincoln Highway and Electric Avenue came in at 12:20 p.m. Once on the scene, first responders found a head-on collision. SOUTH BOSTON, Mass. – An intensive search in and around Castle Island for a missing 4-year-old boy from South Boston ended Monday afternoon after his body was recovered off the coast of Spectacle Island, authorities said. BROCKTON, Mass. – The Brockton Public School District will eliminate 130 certified staff positions, the superintendent said Monday. The decision to cut staff came as the district faces an $18 million deficit, Brockton Public Schools Superintendent Mike Thomas said in a statement. “Since the start of the pandemic, the district’s enrollment has decreased by nearly 1,350 students,” Thomas said. “After exhausting all other options and facing an $18 million shortfall, the district was forced to issue reduction-in-force notices today that will result in the elimination of 130 certified staff positions” .
