MINNEAPOLIS — A two year old Department of Justice investigation was triggered after the killing of George Floyd found that the city of Minneapolis and its police department have engaged in practices that disenfranchise residents, specifically black and Native American residents. According to the DOJ, the investigation determined four basic findings: that the Minneapolis Police Department used excessive force, including “unjustified deadly force,” unlawfully; discriminates against people of colorit deprives people of their First Amendment rights and discriminates against people with behavioral health disabilities when responding to calls for assistance. The shooting happened in the Roseland neighborhood near West 99th Street and South Princeton Avenue.
