Four Spectrum editors won two Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ) Region 1 Mark of Excellence awards last weekend. The the results were announced at the annual SPJ Region 1 awards ceremony, held this year in Bristol, Rhode Island. “Officer Involved Shooting” in Thermopolis
A “critical incident” occurred on Canyon Hills Road in Thermopolis. The City of Thermopolis confirms there was an “officer-involved shooting” at approximately 12:37 p.m. Local sources say the incident occurred at an RV parking lot on Canyon Hills Road. The Hot Springs County Sheriff’s Office also confirms that a “critical incident” occurred and has asked the public to avoid the area. A Thermopolis police officer was shot and airlifted to an area hospital. There were allegedly two suspects, a man and a woman, who were involved in the incident. 7 bodies, including missing Okmulgee County girls, found on Henryetta property
Okmulgee County search crews said seven bodies were found on a property in Henryetta, including those of two missing teenage girls. Authorities say 14-year-old Ivy Webster and 16-year-old Brittany Brewer were last seen with Jesse McFadden, whose body was also found in a rural area east of Henryetta. “Our hearts go out to the families and friends, schoolmates and everyone else. It’s just a tragedy in Okmulgee County,” said Sheriff Eddy Rice. McFadden was a registered sex offender who was scheduled to be arraigned Monday, May 1, in Muskogee County. Florida Highway Patrol troopers responded this morning to a collision that killed a pedestrian in Orange County. According to the FHP report, at approximately 12:10 a.m. Saturday, an unknown vehicle described as a pickup truck was traveling northbound on US-441 near the intersection of Rosamond Drive in the inside lane. At the same time, a 63-year-old Orlando man was walking eastbound and entered the northbound lanes of the Orange Blossom Trail.
