How did Neeraj Chopra get injured? Neeraj Chopra revealed after winning the world athletics silver that he suffered a groin injury during the 12-man final in Eugene.
The 24-year-old Olympic champion admitted he would be asked to participate in the Commonwealth Games following medical assessments of his injury.
“During the fourth pitch at the World Championship, I felt pain in my groin and have to withdraw from CWG 2022,” Chopra informed IOA.
He underwent an MRI the next day and was subsequently advised by doctors to rest for a month.
Chopra had said after Saturday’s final, where she won the silver medal, “that he would be able to gauge the extent of his injury once his body cooled down. He had intimated that he would not take any risks before the CWG if the injury required rehabilitation.”
As suggested by his coaches and physio to rest, Neeraj Chopra will be sidelined for a month.
At the just concluded World Championships, Neeraj finished second behind Grenadier Anderson Peters. The Grenadian won the gold with a best attempt of 90.54m.
Peters, 24, had 3 throws over 90m in the men’s javelin final in Eugene as he became the second man to defend the javelin title at the World Athletics Championships.
Neeraj was set for another blockbuster duel with Peters as the world champion confirmed he would be going to the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham. Notably, Peters had finished with bronze at Gold Coast in 2018 when Neeraj won gold.
