Man killed in Cave Junction crash – Medford News, Weather, Sports, Breaking News

A man died Saturday when he crashed his car while eluding police.

According to a news alert from the Josephine County Sheriff’s Office, around 12:55 p.m. an officer attempted to pull over a driver near the 5500 block of Rockydale Road in Cave Junction.

The vehicle accelerated and the driver began driving recklessly, so the deputy terminated the pursuit in the interest of public safety, the notice said.

A short time later, the vehicle was found crashed into a power pole, a fence and trees on the side of the road.

James Scott Mattox, 38, the sole occupant of the vehicle, was conscious but trapped inside the vehicle. Illinois Valley Fire, American Medical Response and Pacific Power responded to the scene and removed Mattox.

The driver was taken to Asante Rogue Regional Medical Center in Medford, where he later died from his injuries, according to the notice.
