Numerous severe weather advisories are in place across the state, and in Breathitt County the courthouse has been opened as a shelter for people displaced by flooding.
The county emergency department said: “Many roads in the county are covered in water and are impassable. Please stay off the roads if possible tonight.
“The courthouse is open at this time for those displaced by the rising waters if you have nowhere else to go.”
Numerous severe weather advisories are in place across the state and the courthouse in Breathitt County has opened as a shelter for those displaced by the flooding.
The state’s governor, Andy Beshear, wrote: “Kentucky, please be aware of the weather.”
The National Weather Service says life-threatening flash flooding is possible in several counties, including Breathitt, Perry, Owsley, Knott and Clay.
Four hours ago, at least five water rescues were underway in Perry County.
The Weather Channel tweeted that most flash flood warnings are in effect for eastern Kentucky.
State Gov. Andy Beshear wrote: “Kentucky, please be aware of the weather.
“Heavy rain is expected across the Commonwealth through Friday, with possible flooding in the eastern part of the state. Please be alert and take all precautions to keep yourself and others safe.”
Alongside his warning message, he uploaded an image showing forecasted rainfall levels across the state through Friday.
