Medford opens the home final at 7:05 pm Thursday against TKB Baseball

The Medford Rogues pitching staff continued its strong surge to the finish line Wednesday night, with David Grewe turning in one of his best performances of the summer to lead the way to an 8-2 victory over the visiting Redding Colt 45 at Harry & David Field. .

Grewe, a sophomore at Oregon State, pitched five shutout innings with just one hit allowed. The 6-foot-2 righty struck out five and walked two in 72 pitches.

To close things out, Jacob Liberta allowed one hit with four strikeouts in two scoreless innings of relief, and Grayson Grinsell continued his strong work with three strikeouts in the ninth.

In his last four relief appearances, the Oregon-bound Grinsell has struck out 18 in seven scoreless innings and allowed just one hit with two walks. The 6-2 lefty had two saves during that span.

Medford (22-16-1) broke out early with a two-run single in the second inning by Cole Arnold, then tacked on two more runs in the third to build a 4-0 lead.

Ben Pajak doubled his home run total for the summer with two solo homers for the Rogues. Pajak homered with one out in the fourth and eighth innings.

Reece MacRae also drove in two runs for the Rogues, while Emiliano Alarcon went 2-for-4 with two runs and Grinsell went 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI.

Blake Tweedt hit a two-run home run in the sixth for Redding’s lone run.

The Rogues were set to open their final home of the summer at 7:05 p.m. Thursday night against TKB Baseball, with 7:35 p.m. starts scheduled for Friday and Saturday nights to make up for the wave of heat being experienced here in southern Oregon.

Doors will open Friday at 5pm to host a Home Run Derby slated for the Rogues at 5:30. Friday night will also feature a 10th anniversary shirt auction.
