One dead after vehicle chase ends in Botetourt County

CLOVERDALE, Va. – UPDATE – 18:23:

The Sheriff has reported that the injured passenger has been taken to the hospital for treatment.

Both the driver and passenger involved in the chase had warrants, according to the sheriff.

10 News has received more information about the pursuit in Botetourt County.

Sheriff Matt Ward of the Botetourt County Sheriff’s Department has confirmed that there were two men in the vehicle, a white Mercedes, involved in the pursuit.

During the pursuit, the sheriff said the Mercedes ran off the road and the driver exited the vehicle and shot himself, killing himself.

The sheriff reported that the passenger was injured, but did not confirm to what extent.

A vehicle chase has ended in Botetourt County.

Botetourt County Sheriff Matt Ward said the situation began at 3:56 pm when they were alerted to a pursuit from the city of Roanoke traveling into their jurisdiction.

The person involved in the pursuit was armed, according to the sheriff.

The pursuit ended near Read Mountain Road and Downing Street in the Cloverdale area, deputies said, and traffic should avoid the area.

MPs are asking parents with children at Mini World to head to Read Mountain Road and Apple Tree Road and then down Downing Street.

The Sheriff’s Department reports they are still waiting for a medical examiner to arrive at the scene.
