For the first time, CNN will air a SHARK WEEK documentary when Great White Open Ocean airs in prime time on Saturday, July 30 at 9:00 PM ET.

Great White Open Ocean, a 90-minute documentary, features shark diving expert Jimi Partington who nearly died in the jaws of a great white shark in 2020. A year later, Jimi attempted to overcome the event traumatic and return to the water with the largest megasharks in the ocean. But what starts as a positive experience quickly turned into a life and death battle. Great White Open Ocean was filmed by Shark Week filmmaker Jeff Kurr.

The most anticipated programming event of the summer, SHARK WEEK, returned to Discovery for its historic 34th year on Sunday, July 24 with Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson as the first master of ceremonies. SHARK WEEK fans were treated to 25 hours of all-new, adrenaline-inducing originals that delivered never-before-seen footage of walking sharks, breathtaking breaching and more shocking predation captured on camera by field crews dedicated to science and research SHARK WEEK 34 takes audiences to new places, from the Exuma Islands in the Bahamas to Papua New Guinea. Working with dozens of the world’s most respected marine biologists and scientific institutions, the week’s program has highlighted innovative shark technology to continue research into these elusive creatures and their mating and migration patterns, while sharing the findings of a new undescribed species.
