BROOKINGS, Ore. — NewsWatch 12 has confirmation tonight that an afternoon incident in Brookings Harbor has claimed the life of a White City woman.
The Curry County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident in Brookings Harbor, which allegedly involves three people being hit by a vehicle. A Curry County official says the crash killed one person, sent another to the hospital and brought Oregon State Police into the investigation.
Tonight, Curry County Sheriff John Ward says Hiedei Bailey, 38, of White City died from his injuries, noting, “It was also reported that Bailey’s sister was CPR and it was also reported that Bailey’s eleven-year-old daughter. was playing on the beach at the time.” Rebecca Williams, 46, of White City is also listed as an injured pedestrian in the crash. He says Bailey’s and Williams’ vehicles were parked next to each other and both were hit, causing significant damage to both vehicles before hitting the women.
Ward says deputies contacted Paul Armenta, 66, of Brookings as the man driving a large Econo Van that had driven into the crowd, “Witnesses said they saw the person driving and it looked like that he was passed out. behind the wheel.”
Ward says the other victim caught by Armenta was identified as Doris Dianne Bever, 79, of Discovery Bay, California.
The Curry County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) says, “Armenta, Bever and Bailey were taken by ambulance to Brookings ER where Bailey was pronounced dead. Armenta and Bever were stabilized and Bever was expected to be released from ‘medically released. Williams had been transported by ambulance to Sutter Coast Hospital and the last we had was that she was being transferred to a higher care hospital at an undisclosed location.’
CCSO says Armenta’s vehicle also destroyed two RVs, one with two small children inside that had been moved about fifteen feet, but “both children were uninjured.”
Curry County deputies and an Oregon State Trooper processed the scene. The Curry County District Attorney was notified. CCSO says it will continue the investigation and expressed “deepest condolences to Hiedei Bailey’s family and friends.”
