Man dead after strange reports of abduction at Fayetteville home – WSB-TV Channel 2

FAYETTE COUNTY, Ga. – Police said a man has died after someone called 911 to report being kidnapped by a group of people at a home in Fayette County on Tuesday.

The strange scene in Fayetteville left people sheltering in their homes and others unable to return home.

Fayetteville police blocked the entrance to the Woodbyne subdivision off White Road for nearly six hours Tuesday morning.

Police said a man was later found dead inside the home from a gunshot wound. Police say the gunshot wound was self-inflicted.

Channel 2’s Tom Jones spoke with investigators at the scene who said they received a 911 call from someone whispering. The caller hung up.

Dispatchers called back and the caller said he had been kidnapped by a group. Officers traced the call to a home on Selwyn Street.

Police said they saw someone who appeared to be in distress in the garage. About 10 people left the house, but one person remained inside.

Jones spoke with a neighbor, who said he saw police approach a man outside the home and arrest him.

Shortly before 2 p.m., investigators held a press conference where they said a SWAT team had entered the home and found a person dead with a gunshot wound to the head and that the incident was over.

The lockdown has since been lifted.

They have not released the identity of the person who died.

Police said the man they arrested was taken into custody for questioning because he was uncooperative.
