Miu told investigators she first encountered the group when she went to look for her friend’s lost phone, according to court documents. The phone was in a float (a tuber bag to keep your valuables from sinking) and Miu donned her scuba gear to look for it in the river.
He said he came across the first group that looked like they had found something. When he asked about a cell phone, the group began insulting him, removing his tube and glasses and throwing them into the water and calling him a “child abuser,” he said. He told police he was attacked by them and another group and that he feared for his life and acted in “self-defense.”
He told investigators he later returned to his friends and saw what appeared to be people from the two groups he had an altercation with fighting each other.
Witnesses and victims, however, told police that Miu was bothering a group of people with his tubes, and called for help from other people in the river, who stood between the two. A witness told police that Miu’s behavior was “disgusting” and that he had “a very strange and sketchy appearance,” the complaint said. He allegedly hit a woman in the first group before a man punched him, knocking him into the river. He then allegedly stabbed several people with a folding knife with a 3-inch blade.
A video of the incident obtained by police shows Miu running toward a group and grabbing their pipes before being told to “run,” court documents say. As he walks away, he has a confrontation with a woman as others accuse him of “looking for girls” and flock to him. He is also seen in the video pulling a knife out of his pocket and exposing the blade before the camera pans back and forth, showing Miu falling into the water and being slapped. He then comes out of the water and starts stabbing people.
During the interrogation, an officer told Miu that one person had died and four were injured.
“[Miu] he said, “Oh, no,” and asked if the individuals were injured because they were
fighting with each other, and I said I didn’t know,” the officer wrote in the complaint.[Miu] then he put his head in his hands and said, “Oh my God.” [Miu] he said his whole life was “down the tubes”. [Miu] he said he was sorry how this ended.”
Miu is being held in the St. Louis County Jail. Croix on $1,000,000 bail. A preliminary hearing has been set for August 12.
