Emergency crews and gas were on the scene of an accident in Wilmerding, Allegheny County, where a garbage truck crashed into two homes on Patton Street around 4 a.m. Tuesday. The coroner’s office said Dana M. Rodericks, 47, of Delmont, died. at the scene of the accident. The cause of death has not yet been determined. County police said the truck was traveling on Jefferson Street and attempting to turn onto Patton Street when it overturned. Hussey said the crash put the community at risk. “There was a lot of gas coming out of the structures, both of them, and that was because the vehicle cut the gas lines and there was no way to shut them off,” he said. Hussey. “The vehicle was over the gas shutoff, so me and the gas company had to improvise to shut it off.” Two houses were damaged in the accident. One was vacant and expected to be demolished Tuesday night. The other house was occupied by two teenagers who were asleep and unharmed. A WTAE photojournalist at the scene reported a strong smell of gas. Peoples Gas was called to the scene after the truck hit the home’s gas line. Duquesne Light was also on the scene. Crews are still investigating what caused the crash. A safety check at Big’s Sanitation shows the Department of Transportation has issued the company six violations in the past 24 months for drivers who were not wearing seat belts. to comment We haven’t heard back.
