BREAKING: Downtown Louisville is on lockdown after suspicious package of white cylinders with wires found at bus stop
Five white cylinders with wires were found at a bus stop in Louisville, Ky., around 8 a.m. Friday. Jefferson Street between Third and Sixth Streets has been closed while a bomb squad investigates and removes suspected bombs The bomb squad was seen releasing a robot from an armored vehicle, which then rolled into the bus stop and placed the devices in a black container. Police are asking all people confined to the area to shelter in place The bus stop is near City Hall and Metro Hall and it is unclear who discovered the bombs
Downtown Louisville has been placed on lockdown after a suspicious package of white cylinders with wires was found at a bus stop.
The suspicious package contained at least five white cylinders labeled Bomb 1 and 2 and were found bundled behind a bench at the bus stop at 5th Street and Jefferson Street Friday morning.
The Louisville Metro Police Department (LMPD) said the devices appear to be a pipe with wires sticking out. WHAS 11 reported
It is unknown who discovered the bombs or who planted them at the bus stop.
LMPD announced shortly before noon that it was “examining the object” through X-rays and is “actively canvassing” the area.
Authorities have not confirmed what the X-rays found.
Seconds Fox 10the first cylinder leaked fluid but the others did not.
Several streets have been closed while the LMPD bomb squad investigates the incident. Those confined to Jefferson between Third and Sixth streets are asked to shelter in place.
Prepared police and members of a SWAT team are canvassing the surrounding area for “any other potential threats.”

The bomb robot helped authorities approach suspected explosives safely
Video footage from WLKY’s Mark Vanderhoff shows that the bomb squad released a robot from an armored vehicle and can be seen rolling towards the suspected bombs.
The robot was also seen placing the bombs in a black container.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) is also looking inside trash cans in the vicinity to see if there are any more potential explosives lying around.
An officer in a “blast suit” was also seen picking up the bucket where the robot placed the suspected bombs.
A Hazardous Incident Response Team (HIRT) has also reportedly arrived and men in hazmat suits are inspecting the area.
At least 40 law enforcement vehicles were seen near the bus stop, according to WHAS 11.
The bus stop is in a hot spot and is close to City Hall and Metro Hall, according to WOLF.
The LMPD has also rescheduled its recruit graduation that was supposed to take place at Metro Hall “out of an abundance of caution.”
