The search to continue after a possible sighting of a wanted person in Montgomery County

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Va. – UPDATE 23:20:

The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office said they are still looking for the man who tried to break into a home in the Brush Mountain area on Thursday.

Authorities said they believe the man spotted is Shawn Tolbert, 42, who they have been searching for after a Botetourt County police chase that led to a crash in Craig County.

A heavy police presence will continue in the Brush Mountain area as the investigation continues overnight, according to authorities.

The sheriff’s office reminded area residents to remain vigilant throughout the night and to call 911 if they see anyone matching the description.

The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office said they, along with several other agencies, are currently searching for a man who tried to break into a home in the Brush Mountain area.

Authorities said they believe that man is Shawn Tolbert, 42, who they were looking for after a Botetourt County police chase that led to a crash in Craig County.

The man seen was described as wearing blue jeans, black shoes, possibly a purple shirt, with blond hair pulled back in a ponytail, the sheriff’s office said.

A person police have been looking for out of Giles County has possibly been seen in the Newport area, the Giles County Sheriff’s Office said.

According to the sheriff’s office, there was a heavy police presence near the Newport Rescue Squad due to the possible sighting. Authorities did not confirm who the possible sighting was.
