Tensions are high backstage in AEW right now, especially with some of their top talent.

In this week’s Combat Observer BulletinDave Meltzer wrote that there is currently “a lot of behind-the-scenes drama involving many of the best that has gotten a lot worse in recent weeks.”

Meltzer said the catalyst is Colt Cabana being dropped from Dark Order with no explanation or angle. They also don’t bring it on TV and would cut it, according to Meltzer. However, AEW boss Tony Khan signed him to Ring of Honor.

This comes after AEW World Champion CM Punk called out former AEW World Champion Hangman Page at the start of his Wednesday promo and called him a coward. However, the “coward sh*t” reference and line wasn’t planned, as Punk was supposed to focus on Moxley.

Cabana feuded with Punk after winning his famous lawsuit against WWE doctor Chris Amann. Cabana sued Punk for fraud, saying they had a verbal agreement that Punk would cover his legal fees and any damages resulting from the case. The lawsuit was withdrawn in September 2019.

Meltzer said that while Cabana’s problems were the catalyst, there is an air of inevitability to the problems.

“But even if (Punk’s page appeal) didn’t happen, it probably would happen for something else just given the nature of the different personalities involved. It seems like some people are close to their breaking point if things do. I won’t settle,” he wrote.

Meltzer didn’t go into detail about what other top talent had issues and with whom or what.
